How do I request credit & background checks from applicants?

There are two options to screen potential tenants using Rentler. You can either request a credit and background screening with an application or you can do a standalone screening for people who did not apply online through Rentler.

With an application 

I. Automatically request screenings

When you create a listing, you will have the option to automatically require screenings by clicking the box next to "Require Screenings". This means that every person who submits an application through Rentler will be invited to complete a credit and background check.

II. Request a screening manually

If you'd rather review the application before requesting the credit & background check, click on Applications and select the application you wish to review. An [Add a Screening] button will be available from the credit check and background check tabs, you can click either one to begin the process.

Without an application:

  1. Go to Landlord Dashboard and click on Screenings.
  2. Click the button that says [Request A Screening] or select the property you are trying to rent. (Note: If you haven't verified your ID yet you will be asked to complete this step).

  3. Fill out the potential tenant's information and click [Submit]. This is where you will be given the option to either have each applicant pay the $35 credit & background check fee or to pay it on their behalf.

  4. Your potential tenant will be notified by email that they have a screening request. They will then be able to log in on and accept or reject the credit & background screening request.
